Serial ATA

The Serial ATA (SATA) computer bus is a storage-interface for connecting host bus adapters that are integrated into laptop computers and desktop motherboards to hard disk drives and optical drives.

SATA offers several advantages over the older parallel ATA interface, reduced cable bulk and a faster and more efficient data transfer rate of up to 3 Gbits/s.
A spike is a short burst of electricity exceeding 100 percent the normal voltage and will last only microseconds, normally at 400-5600 volts.
